Freshman Parent & Guest Orientation

About Parent and Guest FASET Orientation

Parent and Guest Orientation runs separately from the student program, focusing on a variety of topics of interest to parents of new students. Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend presentations on academic success, financial matters, housing, parking, campus safety, and much more09C2311-P1-113

  • Participate in a campus resource fair

  • Meet with other parents of first-year students attending FASET

  • Attend break-out sessions designed for your individual needs

  • Meet with key campus administrators during our Parents Program reception

  • Attend with your student their departmental orientation/academic advising

While attending FASET is not required, it is a great way for parents and other guests to learn ways to support your student through their various experiences they will encounter at Tech.  The FASET Office strongly believes that family participation during your student's transition to college is invaluable, and we hope you will choose to attend FASET.

Parent and Guests can register for FASET Orientation as part of the student registration process.  Click here, for more information regarding Freshman FASET Orientation.

Tour of Atlanta for Parents and Guests of Fall Freshmen

Designed to give parents an overview of the city, this tour includes many of Atlanta's beautiful homes and historic sites.  The tour will show you the Governor's Mansion, famous Peachtree Street, the Fox Theatre, the Woodruff Arts Center, the High Museum of Art, a downtown view of Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia State Capitol, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. This is a great way to see the city where your student will be living.

The tour takes place on the first evening of each freshman session. Please indicate on your reservation form if you plan to take the tour, as we cannot accept walk-ups. Students will be involved in other programs; therefore, the tour is only for parents and guests. The cost is $ 25 per person, which will be added to your student's bill.

Georgia Tech Parents Program

FASET Orientation offers a variety of information specifically for parents.  The Georgia Tech Parents Program strives to continue informing you about our campus throughout the school year.  Part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Parents Program hosts a variety of parent events and volunteer opportunities including: newsletters, e-mail updates, and Family Weekend.

Coming to college is a big step in your student's life. Georgia Tech Parent Programs looks forward to partnering with you to make it successful.  There are many opportunities to get involved and volunteer on campus, in your hometown, and across the country!

Freshman Convocation and Parent Reception

Open to all incoming students and their families, Freshman Convocation is a ceremony to honor a new beginning.   Just as commencement is a ritual marking the completion of study, Convocation is a ritual that signals the beginning of a college career. It is also the first time the freshman class of 2009 and their families are welcomed to the academic community.  Click here for more details.

In conjunction with Freshman Convocation, parents and family members are invited to a separate parent and guest reception.  Faculty, staff, and administrators will be in attendance to greet parents.  We also plan to showcase some of our talented student performance groups.
