New Student Checklist
We will help you accomplish each of these items at FASET. If you are unable to attend orientation, the FASET Orientation
Staff can still be of assistance to you in completing any of the items listed below. Please do not
hesitate to call us at (404) 894-6897 or stop by our
office with questions.
-
Check in to your residence hall assignment. Go to
the Area Housing Office (either East or West Campus)
between 8am and 5pm to check in and pick up your key.
- Meet with an advisor in the major you wish to study
to discuss course selection for the semester. Visit www.advising.gatech.edu if you do not know who your advisor is. Note: If you wish to change
your major, you must do that officially with the Office
of Admissions before you attempt to register for classes.
Many classes are restricted by major.
- Register for classes. Log on to OSCAR at www.oscar.gatech.edu , where there are directions
on how to use our on-line course registration system.
- Pay your bill. There are two ways to do this: visit
the Bursar’s Office in Lyman Hall, or pay by
credit card online at www.bursar.gatech.edu.
- Get a Buzzcard. The Buzzcard is your student identification
card, which also operates your meal plan, entrance
into the Campus Recreation Center and Library, and
many other features. Go to the Buzzcard Center in
the Student Center Commons. There is no cost.
- Get a computer account. Your “GT” account
is your email account. Every student is required by
Georgia Tech to have an email account and check it
once a day (see Student Handbook for more information).
GT accounts are mailed to all incoming students with their acceptance letters, but can also be obtained in the Library Resource Center, on the ground floor of the Library.
- Order your books. Visit the Bookstore at Technology Square. The bookstore will know what textbooks
you will need based on the CRN of your class. You
can also order online at:http://gatech.bkstore.com/
- Go to Class! You can make changes to your schedule
through the end of the first week of classes.
