Visiting Atlanta
Atlanta's symbol is the phoenix — in Egyptian mythology, the bird that rises from the ashes in rebirth. As the city emerged from the destruction of the Civil War, local leaders recognized that Atlanta and Georgia needed a school for teaching the skills that rebuilding would require. Georgia Tech was started for that reason, and the Institute and the city have grown together ever since.
Today, Atlanta is a thriving metropolis. Home to the
1996 Olympics, Atlanta is a vibrant international city
where people from all cultures and races come together.
It's a city with a strong economy, a high-tech core
anchored by Georgia Tech, and a unique culture and feel
of its own — a place where the people are friendly,
and you'll find skyscrapers and major city amenities
just around the corner from historic tree-lined neighborhoods.
It's an exciting place for Tech to call home, where
we are playing a vital role in an ongoing renaissance
as the city of Atlanta comes into its own.
