Academic Registration

At FASET you will have the opportunity to register for classes. In each registration cluster, we will have orientation staff trained to assist you in using our on-line registration system OSCAR. See the Registrar's website for more information on how to register for classes.

FASET Orientation Registration Tips

·Why is it important to register while at FASET?
Although the time tickets are open beyond registration during FASET, the designated time slots are the only times in which a FASET Leader and advisors will be available to provide assistance.

· What is OSCAR?
OSCAR is an acronym: Online Student Computer Assisted Registration. Iit is the campus internet portal where you will complete most of your Georgia Tech business: paying bills, registering for classes, checking grades, determining your finals schedule, etc.

· What are CRN Numbers?
CRN numbers designate specific courses in the Tech registration system. The CRN is the 6-digit number that can be found on OSCAR. It is important to have the CRN numbers corresponding to the courses you want to take written down prior to registration in order to make the process go faster.

· What is BuzzPort and how do I use it to register?
BuzzPort is a portal website similar to Yahoo or AOL.com. BuzzPort allows you to access e-mail, calendars, course homepages, course chats and message boards, campus announcements, Banner/OSCAR, WebCT, and other tools all within a single login. These tools and features are integrated and can be customized to fit your personal preferences.

After logging in to BuzzPort, registration is done online through OSCAR. During FASET, students are assigned a computer cluster and a time slot for registration. OSCAR can also be used to view academic records, financial account summaries, and personal information.

· What is an Overload?
An overload allows a student to register for a class that is technically full. Overloads are usually granted by the professor/department under which the class is taught. To view each department's most current overload process, click here. It is important to remember that after the overload is obtained, actual registration for the course still has to take place.

· What is a Permit?
Permits are used to regulate registration for special classes. Some examples of classes that require permits include foreign languages, special sections of GT 1000, and honors classes. You may get a permit from the school under which the class is listed. You can check your registration status on Oscarweb to see if you have a permit. If so, one must then go online to register for the class during the assigned registration period.

· How do I drop a class?
All changes to your class schedule are done online at OSCAR (http://oscar.gatech.edu) under registration. To find out how to drop a course and the associated policies, click here.

· What are the core classes required of every student at GT?
English Comp. I & II
Computer Science
Calculus I&II (Those in the Dupree College of Management and the Ivan Allen College have the option of taking Survey of Calculus and Finite Math instead.)
Health and Performance Sciences
6 semester hours of Humanities/Fine Arts
12 semester hours of Social Sciences

· What do I need to do before I can register?
In order to register, all holds must be removed from your account. Health holds can be removed by getting the proper immunizations and turning the records in to the Health Center.

It is important that students activate their e-mail account as soon as possible, prior to registration. You will receive your email account when you get your Buzzcard (student ID) preferably during FASET.

Students should prepare a draft schedule with times and days of the classes you are hoping to take. Please have at least one “back-up” option for each class you have chosen, as well as the CRN numbers for these courses.

· How do you register for a Lab Science?
You must register for the lecture and the lab at the same time
