Frequently Asked Questions Answered for Incoming Freshman Students:

- Can a student attend FASET 5 even if he/she lives within 600 miles of Atlanta?

We understand that many students may be working or traveling for much of the summer, making it more difficult to attend FASET Session I, II, III or IV. However, due to certain space restrictions, there is a limited number of participants we are capable of handling during any one session. Due to the additional costs out-of-region participants would incur to attend an orientation session prior to move-in for the start of classes, we have given first priority to students living 600 miles away or greater for FASET V. Once we have accommodated all students who qualify for FASET V, we will open any remaining space to people living within the 600-mile cut-off. If space is available, we will begin accepting requests to change to FASET V after the FASET registration deadline has passed.  Requests will be granted on a first come, first served basis. Again, we cannot guarantee there will be enough space to accommodate anyone within the 600-mile range. Therefore, we recommend and encourage students to attend one of the first four FASET sessions.

- Will attending the last FASET hurt a student's chance to get his/her preferred classes?

The majority of freshmen are pre-registered for between one and four courses, dependent on major, AP scores and other incoming college credits prior to their orientation session.  While students still have the option to add or drop certain classes during FASET, the majority of classes are nearly equally filled for participants in each FASET session. Therefore, there is little, if any, advantage for a student to attend an earlier FASET.

- What does FASET entail? Is it different from Connect With Tech?

The FASET Orientation is organized: to help you complete important college business prior to arriving for classes (academic advisement, course registration, student ID, book purchases, campus resources, banking options and area services); to educate you on the academic and social atmosphere of Georgia Tech; to provide a forum for you to get involved with student organizations; and to incorporate you into the campus community. The benefits FASET Orientation provides are numerous, and 98% of last year’s incoming class attended. (The other 2% wish they had!)

- Is FASET mandatory?

While FASET is not mandatory for any student, attendance is highly recommended and over 98% of last year’s incoming class attended. The program helps to facilitate the transition process into Georgia Tech and provides the earliest and most convenient advisement and registration process.

- What time does FASET start and end?

Check-in for all Fall Freshman FASET sessions begin on the first day scheduled at 8AM. The program runs through 5 PM on the second day.

- How does one pay for FASET orientation?

All FASET related fees will be billed to the student's account through Georgia Tech's Bursar Office (404.894.4618). A list of fees can be found on the FASET web page under Orientation Costs.

- When are residence hall assignments sent out?

Housing assignments are sent out throughout the summer. In July you should receive notification about the side of campus you will be living on (East or West Campuses). In about the first week of August, you will receive the specific room assignment with contact information for your roommate.

- How do I change any of my personal information, my major, or my assigned FASET session?

To change your information with the FASET program, such as changing your assigned session or your mailing address for the summer, you may do so on the FASET Orientation online reservation page or by contacting the FASET Orientation Office (404.894.6897). To officially and permanently change your information with Georgia Tech, such as your permanent mailing address, major or admissions status, you must contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (404.894.4154).

- Can I still register for classes if I don’t come to FASET?

FASET Orientation provides you the earliest and most convenient way to register for classes.  FASET attendees receive registration assistance from experienced students and staff.   If you do not attend FASET, you will be responsible for seeking academic advisement and registering for classes (via the Oscar system) on your own. Registration for non-FASET attendees takes place during open registration just prior to the start of classes, after all returning students and FASET attendees have registered.
